Metallica — 72 Seasons
April 14, 2023 All day
72 Seasons is Metallica’s eleventh studio album, and the band’s first collection of new music since Hardwired . . . to Self Destruct (2016).
The first single is “Lux Æterna.” Listen to James Hetfield affirm his standing as Metallica’s right-hand-powered riff leader, while Kirk Hammett throws down one of his wildest solos in recent memory.
Coinciding with the dropping of “Lux Ætera” and the announcements of both Metallica’s upcoming album and tour is a profile of the band in the august and venerable pages of the New Yorker: The Enduring Metal Genius of Metallica. Who would have imagined that back in the early 80s, when Metallica was an underground band too dangerous for commercial radio, findable only by fans in gritty metal clubs, record stores off the beaten path, and the occasional left-of-the-dial college radio metal show?
